I received a complimentary copy of this book from booksneeze.com. I was really looking forward to reading the book, Close Enough To Hear God Breath, in hopes of learning more about God in a more intimate way. I was rather disappointed in that area, as I felt it fell far short of being a thought provoking book. The author is an amazing story teller though. He does an outstanding job on painting word pictures and putting you in the moment he is describing. He tells a lot of personal stories from his family and his ministry.
In his book he does draw some very unique comparisons. For example, some chapters in his book are called, “Plastic Pop Bottles”, “Happiness Is a Hot Shower”, and “Chocolate Rosebuds”.
The book is divided up into 5 main parts:
1) The Heart of The Matter
2) Creation
3) The Fall
4) Redemption
5) Consummation.
Here is a small taste of this author’s style,
“ I sort of get why he says he loves me, too----God is love, after all, so he pretty much has to, doesn’t he? Couldn’t do otherwise. But when he says, I’m pleased with you, it really stumps me. I mean, really, the God who has entire galaxies to play with just can’t wait to hang out with me? It’s hard enough to believe while still in the garden, where, at least, the surroundings are pleasant, and his image in me is still so bright and shiny. But out here in the desert, where the unforgiving light reveals me as being unsound from head to foot, a walking compendium of wounds and bruises and gangrenous sores, it seems absurd.”
I received this book free from the publisher through the BookSneeze®.com <http://BookSneeze®.com> book review bloggers program. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.
